Welcome to the Unseen Project – a platform for people to open up and discuss real life issues. People often keep things such as mental health and abuse to themselves because they fear being alienated from their peers. Even though we are living in a society that is more open than what it was 10 years ago, there is still a lot of stigma around certain conditions and preferences.
According to Time For Change 9 out of 10 people with mental health problems experience stigma and discrimination. Over 77 percent of students have been bullied verbally, mentally, and physically. 64% of children who are bullied do not report it. 37% of adults are bullied at work. Domestic abuse affects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime.
The stats are very telling and highlight how prevalent these issues are. Imagine how much higher these stats would be if you include those who don’t open up about their situation. The term ‘behind closed doors’ comes to mind as you never know what’s really going on in people’s lives. Some hide behind a smile, some are too afraid to even leave their home, some use various addictions to mask it.
The Unseen Project was created to give those who have suffered or overcome life’s physical, mental or emotional hurdles a voice. Come out of the darkness and take the spotlight. Be heard and seen. Share your story so others can learn. Open up so we can help each other collaboratively. If you are interested in becoming a blogger/vlogger click here and fill out the contact to receive further information.
The Unseen Project will provide the latest news, stats and information on mental health, abuse (all variants) and bullying. We will also be providing links to various groups and information that can offer further support.
